On October 8, the exhibition “Legacy of the Epoch: 20th Century Art from the Tretyakov Gallery Collection” opened in Almaty.  The exhibition will feature 30 outstanding works of 20th century Russian art from the collection of the State Tretyakov Gallery—one of the leading museums of Russian art and a key custodian of Russia’s artistic heritage. The exhibition will be open to visitors at the Abilkhan Kasteev National Museum of Arts of the Republic of Kazakhstan through January 17, 2027.

“For Rosatom, the partnership with Kazakhstan is a long-term collaboration centered on people. As we develop cooperation in the nuclear energy sector, we believe it is important to foster cultural ties between our countries. Supporting the exhibition “Legacy of the Epoch” is but one step in this direction. We hope this project will serve as a foundation for further cooperation between museums and for new exhibitions introducing audiences to the art of our countries,” noted Kirill Komarov, First Deputy Director General and Director of Rosatom’s Development and International Business Unit.

“As the National Wealth Fund, “Samruk-Kazyna” consistently supports initiatives that are important for the development of society and the country. The exhibition of works from the State Tretyakov Gallery at the Abilkhan Kasteev National Museum of Arts is a significant event in the cultural life of Kazakhstan. It is important for us to be the general partner of a project of this scale, which strengthens cultural ties, expands opportunities to engage with world art, and contributes to the development of Kazakhstan’s contemporary cultural environment,” said Nurlan Zhakupov, Chairman of the Management Board of Samruk-Kazyna JSC.

The exhibition “Legacy of the Epoch: 20th Century Art from the Tretyakov Gallery Collection” will be open to the general public in Almaty from October 8, 2026, through January 17, 2027, and will feature 30 works from the collection of the State Tretyakov Gallery. The exhibition will include works by Arkady Rylov, Boris Kustodiev, Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin, Alexander Deineka, Pyotr Konchalovsky, Ilya Mashkov, Viktor Popkov, Dmitry Zhilinsky, Tatyana Yablonskaya, and other artists. Among them are Arkady Rylov’s “In the Blue Expanses,” “The Death of the Commissar” by Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin, “Skiers” by Alexander Deineka, “The Surrender of Germany” by the Kukryniks, and “At the Festival” by Vasily Efanov. Created between 1917 and 1980, the works on display reflect the key historical and cultural processes of the era: the revolution, industrialization and construction, the war and postwar years, the formation of the image of the contemporary person, and the new artistic explorations of the 1960s. The exhibition will offer visitors the opportunity to view original works from the collection of one of Russia’s largest museums and to trace the development of the 20th-century national art school. Its presentation in Almaty is intended to be a significant event in Kazakhstan’s cultural life and to contribute to the strengthening of international cooperation in the fields of museums and the humanities.

Rosatom and Kazakhstan have a long-standing partnership in the nuclear sector. The flagship project is the construction of Kazakhstan’s first nuclear power plant. On June 14, 2025, Rosatom was designated as the leader of the international consortium for the construction of the first high-capacity nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan. On August 8, 2025, in the village of Ulken (Zhambyl District, Almaty Region, Kazakhstan), initial work began on the Balkhash NPP construction project—engineering surveys to select the optimal site and prepare design documentation for the construction of a high-capacity nuclear power plant. The results will determine the exact location of the NPP taking into account all safety requirements. As of May 2026, more than 90 % of the field engineering surveys (site investigations for construction) had been completed. On September 3, on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum, the state corporation Rosatom and Kazakhstan Atomic Power Plants LLP (KAZNPP) signed an EPC contract for the construction of the Balkhash Nuclear Power Plant, consisting of two power units with a total electrical capacity of 2,400 MW. The nuclear power plant will be built near the village of Ulken in the Zhambyl District of Almaty Region, Kazakhstan.
