The Energy Storage Business
Unit of Rosatom's Fuel Division (Energy Storage Business Line) and the Egyptian
technology company Telecom and Technology Co. (Teletech) signed an agreement to
establish local assembly facilities in Egypt, provide personnel training, and
gradually expand production capacity. The planned facilities will have a
potential production capacity of 500 MWh per year.
The agreement was concluded in connection
with the Egypt Energy 2026 Exhibition and Conference, where Rosatom and
Teletech participated in a dedicated session titled “Powering Resilience: The
Future of Energy Storage Systems.” The session addressed the growing role of
energy storage technologies, while discussions on localized production and the
company’s product portfolio continued on the sidelines of the conference.
The cooperation between the Russian and
Egyptian companies is expected to create a platform for the deployment of
modern energy storage solutions across a range of sectors, including the
electric power industry, telecommunications, data centers, oil and gas, and
other industrial applications.
A
signing ceremony followed the session, with Murad Aslanov, Director of Rosatom
Country Office in Egypt, attending on behalf of the Energy Storage Business
Unit of Rosatom’s Fuel Division, and Gen. Ehab Saad, Chief Technology Officer
of Teletech, representing the Egyptian company.
During the session, Rosatom presented its
capabilities in lithium-ion energy storage systems. The company develops
solutions across the full technological cycle, from the development and
production of electrodes, cells, battery management systems (BMS), and modules
to finished traction batteries and stationary energy storage systems.
Key areas of application include the
integration of energy storage systems with renewable energy sources, improving
the reliability of electricity supply, compensating for fluctuating loads, and
deploying lithium-ion energy storage systems in autonomous power systems.
The development of local assembly capabilities in Egypt will expand Energy Storage’s ability to bring Russian technological solutions to international markets while adapting its product portfolio to the specific requirements of the local energy infrastructure.
“Egypt’s energy transition increasingly depends on the ability to combine a diversified energy mix with resilient infrastructure and stronger local industrial capabilities. Building local capacity for energy storage systems can support grid stability as renewable energy expands, reduce dependence on imported technologies and external supply chains, and develop domestic technical expertise. In this sense, our collaboration with Egyptian partners like Teletech directly supports Egypt’s 2030 vision of integrating renewable energy sources, localizing technology, and building a more reliable and efficient energy infrastructure,” said Murad Aslanov, Director of Rosatom’s Country Office in Egypt.
“This agreement comes at a time of significant transformation in the global energy sector, as countries strive to create more reliable, diversified, and resilient energy systems. Against this backdrop, Teletech’s partnership with Rosatom represents a timely step toward strengthening Egypt’s energy infrastructure: we are combining advanced lithium-ion battery storage technology with local implementation capabilities. Beyond technology deployment, this collaboration will help strengthen supply chain flexibility and develop the local expertise needed for the next stage of Egypt’s energy development,” noted Ihab Saad, Chief Technology Officer of Teletech.
The establishment of a local lithium-ion
battery assembly facility directly supports the objectives of Egypt’s
Sustainable Clean Energy Plan 2030, which prioritizes diversification of the
national energy mix, greater integration of renewable energy sources, and the
localization of advanced energy technologies.
By enabling the local assembly of battery energy storage systems (BESS), the agreement is expected to help reduce dependence on imported technologies and external supply chains, support grid stability as the share of renewable energy increases, and strengthen domestic technical capabilities.
Rosatom's Fuel Division (management company – JSC TVEL) includes enterprises for nuclear
fuel fabrication, uranium conversion and enrichment, gas centrifuge production,
as well as research and design organizations. As the sole supplier of nuclear
fuel for Russian nuclear power plants, TVEL supplies fuel to more than 70 power
reactors in 15 countries, research reactors in nine countries, and transport
reactors of the Russian nuclear fleet. One in six power reactors worldwide
operates on TVEL fuel. Rosatom's Fuel Division is the world's largest producer
of enriched uranium and a leader in the global stable isotope market. The Fuel
Division is actively developing new businesses in the fields of chemistry,
metallurgy, energy storage technologies, 3D printing, digital products, and nuclear
facility decommissioning. http://www.tvel.ru \
The Energy Storage business unit is being developed within the Fuel Division. It is designed to
produce lithium-ion energy storage systems for emergency and uninterruptible
power supplies; hybrid systems using renewable energy sources; traction
batteries for electric vehicles, special-purpose equipment, and other
applications. Projects are underway to build gigafactories in the Kaliningrad
Region and New Moscow for the production of lithium-ion cells and batteries.
The Kaliningrad gigafactory was launched in 2025, and production in New Moscow
will begin in 2026. The plants, with a total capacity of approximately 8 GWh,
are expected to supply batteries for approximately 100,000 electric vehicles
per year. An in-house R&D center allows us to develop, alongside standard
systems, comprehensive solutions tailored to individual customer requirements.
The team supports projects from R&D to production and provides maintenance
services. Large Russian companies are developing production and investing in
import-substituting technologies. Rosatom and its enterprises take an active
part in this work.
