KAZAN, Russia — On June 17–19, 2026, Kazan hosted the 35th anniversary Russia–ASEAN Summit, bringing together delegations from 11 member states of the association. On the sidelines of the summit, Alexey Likhachev, Director General of Rosatom State Corporation, held a bilateral meeting with Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung. During the meeting, the Director General briefed the head of the Vietnamese government on the progress of the Ninh Thuan 1 Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) project. He also reaffirmed Rosatom’s readiness to provide comprehensive support for the development of Vietnam's national nuclear industry, including the establishment of a Center for Nuclear Science and Technology and workforce training.
"ASEAN remains one of the world's most attractive integration blocs today," said Alexey Likhachev, Director General of Rosatom. "The region's dynamic growth is accompanied by a rising demand for electricity, which opens up high potential for our partner countries to develop nuclear power as a reliable, clean energy source."
ASEAN comprises 11 Southeast Asian nations: Brunei
Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines,
Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and East Timor. Russia has been a Full
Dialogue Partner of the organization since July 1996.
Russia continuously expands cooperation with all interested nations, advancing major international projects. Rosatom and its corporate divisions are active contributors to these efforts.
