From May 20 to 22, 2026, Moscow will host the International Congress on Rare Metals, Materials and Related Technologies RAREMET-2026. The congress is organized by Giredmet (named after N.P. Sazhin), part of Rosatom’s Scientific Division, and will be held at MIREA – Russian Technological University.

The congress is expected to welcome around 500 participants from 15 countries, including Russia, India, Chinaas well as the countries from the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and members of the CIS.

The scientific programme features plenary and panel sessions, round tables and four thematic conferences: Mineral Resources of Rare Metals and Sustainable Processing Technologies, Metallurgy, Magnetic Materials, Powders and Composite Materials Based on Rare Metals, Chemistry and Technology of Extremely Pure Substances Based on Rare Metals and Rare-Metal-Based Materials In Electronics, Optics, Photonics, Energy Conversion, and Storage. The round tables of the congress will address: Materials Based on Rare Metals (RM) and Rare Earth Metals (REM) for Nuclear and High-Tech Medicine; Synchrotron Radiation in Research of RM and REM-Based Materials: from Local Structure and Electronic States to Functional Properties and Technologies; the round table of the Basic Organization of the CIS Member States for Radioactive Waste Management (RWM) – Radioactive Waste Management and Disposal Technologies: Scientific and Technological Solutions, Radiation Control and Digitalization, as well as Digital Design and AI-Controlled Synthesis of Functional Materials Based on Rare and Rare Earth Metals. Special attention will be paid to new challenges: digitalization, artificial intelligence, environmental aspects and principles of circular economy.

The congress will also host the specialized exhibition RAREMET: Expo as well as intergovernmental (G2G) meetings. A number of strategic partnership agreements are expected to be signed on the sidelines of the event.

"We are creating a global platform for dialogue that will consolidate the efforts of science, industry and government in forming sustainable value chains, introducing environmentally friendly technologies and training personnel for this strategically important industry," said Andrey Goliney, Director of the Chemical and Technology Division at Rosatom Science (the managing company of Giredmet).

Konstantin Ivanovskikh, Co-Chair of the RAREMET-2026 Organizing Committee, Deputy Director for Science and Innovations at Giredmet, emphasized the importance of the congress's international dimension. "Russia, with our institute contributing to this effort, is steadily building new scientific and technological competencies, which are attracting strong interest from emerging markets such as India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Laos, African countries and other regions. These countries demand both technologies for processing of rare-metal raw materials, separation and refining of RM and REM, and production of high-purity materials and products for power engineering, electronics and instrumentation. Increasingly, we see demand for integrated solutions covering entire value chains and enabling localization in resource-rich countries.  In this regard, the RAREMET platform provides a convenient format for direct and productive dialog, building cooperation, launching joint R&D and translating scientific solutions into real industrial projects".

About the Congress

The International Congress RAREMET-2026 continues the legacy of the Sazhin Readings scientific seminars (held since 1970) and the RAREMET international conference series (2021, 2022, 2024). The congress is organized by JSC Giredmet, with the Kirillitsa Group as a co-organizer and the general sponsor. Other co-organizers are the Mendeleev Valley Innovation Center Development Fund, MIREA, Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia, Fedorovsky All-Russian Institute of Mineral Resources, the Kurnakov Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry (RAS), and the Association of Rare and Rare-Earth Metals. TASS News Agency acts as a general media partner, and Russian Mining Industry journal – as a general industry media partner.

Rosatom’s Scientific Division conducts cutting-edge fundamental and applied research to advance both nuclear and non-nuclear technologies, including nuclear fuel cycle closure, fusion energy, and nuclear medicine. It also develops high-tech solutions for both the nuclear sector and a wide range of other industries. The division comprises 13 research institutes and commercial organizations, including JSC Research Institute NPO Luch, JSC IRM, and the V.G. Khlopin Radium Institute, among others. These organizations are equipped with advanced research infrastructure as well as their own pilot production facilities, enabling the full innovation cycle—from fundamental research and engineering development to prototype production. Most of the division’s R&D activities are carried out within a unified industrial thematic framework. Its responsibilities also include testing, development of high-tech medical equipment, and creation of advanced structural materials. In addition, projects are underway to commercialize promising high-tech solutions.
