Shanghai ZDAN International Co, a Chinese company, joined the Consortium of the International Research Center based on Multipurpose Fast-Neutron Research Reactor (MBIR) (as a Principal Member). It is expected to facilitate enhancement of mutually beneficial scientific and technical cooperation between the Russian and Chinese nuclear industries.

The International Research Center based on MBIR research reactor was established as the global research platform bringing together the new generation research infrastructure and the international expert community. MBIR is expected to become one of the most powerful installation of its class and to enable a wide range of research in material science, nuclear medical applications, reactor technologies and other advanced areas.

Vasily Konstantinov, Director General of IRC MBIR LLC, noted: "We are happy to receive Shanghai ZDAN International Co in IRC MBIR Consortium. The company has proved itself as a reliable and efficient partner in the nuclear industry. We are sure that its participation in the Consortium will enable to deploy the potential of MBIR to full extent for solution of both fundamental scientific problems and practical tasks with regard to industrial application of nuclear energy".

Shi Xiling, Director General of Shanghai ZDAN International Co, commented: "By joining IRC MBIR Consortium our company intends to open new opportunities for expanded application of nuclear technologies in power applications, industry, healthcare and other areas".

MBIR is a multipurpose fast-neutron research reactor with sodium coolant and the thermal capacity of approximately 150 MW. The reactor is under construction in Dimitrovgrad at the site of the State Scientific Center - Research Institute for Atomic Reactors (RIAR JSC, a part of the R&Ddivision of Rosatom State Corporation) within the framework of the national technological leadership project "New Nuclear and Energy Technologies". In December, 2024 installation of the primary cooling circuit equipment and handling systems for the research reactor began. MBIR is intended for performance of reactor tests, production of radioisotopes, production of modified materials, as well as testing of new type equipment and systems. The unique capabilities of the new reactor are expected to accelerate development of solutions for the two-component nuclear power and the closed nuclear fuel cycle, as well as design of safe Generation IV nuclear power systems.

The International Research Center (IRC) in the form of an international consortium is established on the basis of MBIR reactor. The Consortium participants gain ‘fast track’ access to carry out the experiments needed for national programs of nuclear energy peaceful applications. The Consortium format allows for flexible use of the reactor resource for the demands of the scientific community. IRC MBIR Consortium is open to new members.

Shanghai ZDAN International Co is a Chinese company specializing in international supplies, logistics and integrated support of projects in nuclear power engineering, research and the related high-tech areas. It was founded in 2005. The company participates in the national programs aimed at enhancement of energy sovereignty and development of the Chinese technological potential. It is a qualified supplier for the Chinese and Russian nuclear corporations. It plays an important role in implementation of the Russian nuclear technologies and equipment supply in China and Russia providing for logistics, certification and technical support.
