Habibie Science and Technology Complex in Serpong hosted the first Festival of
Science in Indonesia with the support of Rosatom and Indonesia’s National
Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN). Festival was organized by ANO Energy of
the Future. The event brought together approximately 1200 school and university
students, serving as a platform for young people to learn about modern
achievements in nuclear science and the peaceful applications of nuclear technology.
The point of discussion was the role of nuclear technology in Indonesia’s future and its potential applications not only in energy but also in medicine, agriculture, the food industry, scientific research, and other sectors. Over the course of three days, participants met with Russian and Indonesian experts and scientists, toured BRIN’s research infrastructure, took part in the "Atomic Challenge" and popular science activities, and even met a Russian cosmonaut Nikolai Tikhonov in person. The program featured thematic sessions, visits to BRIN research laboratories, a science show for school students and "The Da Vinci Nuclear Art" creative contest dedicated to nuclear science and technology.
"We are witnessing a steady rise in interest regarding nuclear technology in Indonesia. It is encouraging to see this interest coming from the younger generation. Our collaboration with BRIN goes beyond discussing specific technological solutions; we place great emphasis on skills development, scientific exchanges, and training future specialists. Festival of Science makes it possible to discuss complex technologies in simple terms and shows young people the vast scope of nuclear science. It is precisely these kinds of projects that lay the foundation for a long-term technological partnership between Russia and Indonesia," noted Anna Belokoneva, Head of the Rosatom Representative Office in Indonesia.
Developing scientific expertise has been a key area of cooperation between Rosatom and BRIN for several years; Indonesian students and young researchers gain opportunities to participate in educational programs, including those held in Russia. "Our shared goal is to explain to the younger generation that nuclear technologies are truly among the vital technologies of the future. Their potential extends far beyond the energy sector: they are already being applied in healthcare, the food industry, research, and other fields. Therefore, it is important for us to equip young people from the very beginning with the knowledge and understanding of the benefits these technologies can bring to society and how they will influence energy development of Indonesia," said Amarulla Octavian, Vice Chairman of BRIN.
The Festival of Science is an annual educational event
aimed at promoting engineering and technical professions among young people.
Its program includes lectures, workshops, scientific demonstrations, hands-on
sessions, and tours. Science festivals supported by Rosatom are held in many
countries wh ere the nuclear industry, nuclear technologies, and their
non-energy applications are being developed - including Armenia, Bangladesh,
Bolivia, Vietnam, Egypt, India, and others.
Obninsk Tech is an international research and educational center for nuclear and related fields; a hub for developing modern educational technologies; a showcase for export-oriented products from Russian high-tech companies; and a venue for congresses, exhibitions, and international schools.
