The forth Precision Energy Olympiad organized by Atomstroyexport JSC (Engineering Division of Rosatom) was held in Bangladesh on October 15 - 26. The event was held with the support of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission and the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI (NRNU MEPhI).
Precise Energy is an annual Olympiad aimed
at promotion of science and technologies and arousing the interest of talented
young people of Rooppur NPP construction area in working in the field of
nuclear power engineering.
In 2025, in the year of the 80th anniversary of nuclear industry of Russia, the Olympiad was attended by over 2900 school children and students from over 40 schools and universities of Bangladesh. The interest of young people in the scientific and educational event has grown compared to 2023 when the number of participants in the Olympiad was about 1200. Over 600 people took part in the final stage of the competition. The participants demonstrated knowledge in physics, chemistry, mathematics and engineering art.
The winners of the Olympiad were:
School level - Sayed Masrur Swachcho, Sara Jhaudia High school
Chemistry - Shakil Ahmed, Pabna University
of Science and Technology (PUST)
Physics
- Shama Jannat, Shakil Ahmed, Pabna University of Science and Technology
(PUST)
Mathematics - Md Akherujjamanjim, Rajshahi
University of Engineering and Technology (RUET)
Competition
for solving engineering tasks – “Rabian” team from the University of Rajshahi
Speaking at the award ceremony, Md. Ashraful Islam, Director of Rooppur NPP construction site, thanked the organizers of the Olympiad and all the partners for holding the important event and wished the talented students who had taken part in the Olympiad, to join Rooppur NPP project in the future.
“It is nice to see that the Precise Energy Olympiad is expanding, developing and attracting so many talented young people from year to year. We witness the development of Russian-Bangladeshi cooperation in the field of education and science, and we really hope that today’s participants in the Olympiad will want to connect their lives with peaceful atom tomorrow,” said Nina Dementsova, Head of Communications Division of Atomstroyexport JSC.
“Since the beginning of the Olympiad in Bangladesh, there has been a significant increase in the level of knowledge of the participants. The students and schoolchildren from Rooppur NPP construction region demonstrate a growing interest in science, becoming more motivated and actively involved in educational initiatives,” said Alexander Nakhabov, Deputy Head of Department of Nuclear Physics and Technology of the Obninsk Institute for Nuclear Power Engineering of NRNU MEPhI.
Rooppur NPP
equipped with two VVER-1200 reactors of the total 2400 MW capacity is being
constructed under the Russian design 160 km from Dhaka, the capital of
Bangladesh, in accordance with General Contract dated December 25, 2015. The
Russian design of with VVER-1200 reactors has been selected for first NPP in
Bangladesh. Rosatom's top-of-the-line VVER-1200 reactors have already proven
their efficiency and reliability in the operation of reference power units.
This is an evolutionary Gen III+ design which fully complies with all
international safety requirements. Currently, six power units are being
operated on the basis of such reactors– including four power units in Russia
and two ones in the Republic of Belarus. Construction of nuclear power plants
under Russian technology is underway in Egypt, Hungary, Turkey and China.
The Engineering Division of State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom unites the leading companies of the nuclear industry, namely: Atomstroyexport JSC (Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, branches in Russia and abroad), Joint Design Institute - Atomenergoproekt JSC (Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, St. Petersburg branches - design institutes, branches in Russia and abroad, R&D branches) and subsidiary construction organizations. The Engineering Division ranks first in the world by the order portfolio and the number of NPPs constructed simultaneously across the world. About 80% of the Division’s revenues originate from foreign projects.
The Engineering Division implements construction projects for high-power NPPs in Russia and across the world, renders a full range of EPC, EP, EPC(M) services including project management and design activities, and develops Multi-D technologies for the management of complex engineering facilities. The Division relies on the achievements of the Russian nuclear industry and modern cutting-edge technologies. We construct reliable and safe NPPs with Gen III+ VVER reactors that are in line with all international requirements and recommendations. www.ase-ec.ru
In 2025, Russian nuclear industry celebrates its 80th anniversary 2025: on August 20, 1945, a Special Committee for the use of atomic energy was established. The country responded to the USA threat and created its own nuclear weapons in four years (in 1949, the RDS-1 bomb was successfully tested). USSR was the pioneer and the global leader in peaceful use of atomic energy: Russian atomic scientists created the first NPP in the world (in 1954 in Obninsk), the first nuclear icebreaker was launched to help the conquerors of the Arctic Region (in 1959, icebreaker Lenin). The keynote of the anniversary year can be described by three words: pride, inspiration and dream. People working in the nuclear industry are proud of the heroic deeds of the founders of the industry. They are inspired by the achievements of the previous generations. They are planning to reach new horizons and stretch the boundaries of what is possible.
Russia is consistently developing international trade and economic relations, focusing on cooperation with friendly countries. The implementation of major international energy projects is underway. Rosatom and its enterprises are taking an active part in this work.
