On July 1 in Istanbul (Turkey), representatives of the State Corporation Rosatom presented modern approaches to managing supplier relations in the nuclear industry during the BRICS Nuclear Energy Platform session, held as part of the Nuclear Power Plants & Expo Summit 2025 (Turkey).

Other speakers at the session included Elsie Pule, Chief Coordinator of the Platform (South Africa); Hakan Gerei, Commercial Director of Titan 2 IC Ictas Insaat Anonim Sirketi (a joint venture between the Turkish IC İçtaş İnşaat A.Ş. and the Russian Titan-2 Concern JSC); Fei Min, Director of the International Department of SNPTC (State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation, China); Maxwell Msabala, Design Manager of the Nuclear Build Program at Eskom (South Africa); Sengiphile Simelane, Executive Director for Energy and Industry at NECSA (South African Nuclear Energy Corporation, South Africa), and others. Participants discussed issues of quality control, maintaining the necessary level of competencies, and implementing new regulatory approaches in the industry. Particular attention was paid to improving supplier qualifications, the need for regulatory authorities to adapt to the changing market structure, and the involvement of international development banks in financing supply chains.

Speaking at the session, Esra Songur,  Director for Sustainable Development and Interaction with Energy Companies and Industry Associations at JSC Akkuyu Nuclear (Rosatom’s project company in Turkey), spoke about the growing export potential of companies involved in the large-scale Akkuyu NPP construction project. “By manufacturing equipment and materials for the nuclear industry in compliance with high-quality standards, Turkish companies are becoming more competitive in the global market and can expect to participate in other nuclear power plant construction projects. In this sense, the expert meetings of the BRICS Nuclear Platform foster sustainable business connections. The experience and support of BRICS participants creates even broader opportunities in supply chain management and helps integrate national companies into global technological chains.”

The BRICS Nuclear Platform was created to strengthen corporate-level cooperation in promoting nuclear power as a source of clean electricity. In 2024, two high-level meetings were held, with participation from companies, organizations, and government agencies from nine countries. A non-binding declaration supporting the creation of the Platform was signed by nine participants representing companies and government entities from BRICS member and partner states: CNNC (China National Nuclear Corporation, China), NECSA (South African Nuclear Energy Corporation, South Africa), Eskom (Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd, the state energy company, South Africa), NPPD (Nuclear Power Production and Development Company of Iran, Iran), ABDAN (Associação Brasileira para Desenvolvimento de Atividades Nucleares, Brazil), ABEN (Agencia Boliviana de Energía Nuclear, Bolivia), the Ministry of Innovation and Technology of Ethiopia, NPPA (Nuclear Power Plants Authority, Egypt), as well as the State Corporation Rosatom (State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom, Russia). Throughout 2025, the Platform plans to organize expert-level events at major nuclear industry venues. Rosatom actively participates in the Platform’s initiatives, contributing to the formation of equitable nuclear partnerships and the advancement of sustainable energy solutions.

Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant is the first nuclear power plant under construction in the Republic of Turkey. The Akkuyu NPP project includes four power units with Russian-designed Generation III+ VVER reactors. Each unit will have a capacity of 1200 MW. To date, the project is fully financed by the Russian side. The Akkuyu NPP construction is the world’s first nuclear industry project implemented under the Build-Own-Operate model.

Russia is actively developing cooperation with friendly states. The Russian economy is increasing its export potential, supplying goods, services, and raw materials worldwide. Large-scale international energy projects are being implemented. Rosatom and its divisions are actively participating in this work.
