On March 11, Rosatom, - co-hosted with the ASEAN Centre for Energy, held a webinar titled “Development of National Civil Nuclear Energy Programs in ASEAN Member States.” The event was supported by the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to ASEAN and brought together representatives of government bodies, industry organizations, energy companies, and experts to discuss key aspects of introducing nuclear energy in the region.
The webinar opened with welcoming remarks by Yevgeny Zagaynov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to ASEAN. Expert perspectives on the development of nuclear energy in ASEAN countries and globally were shared by Razib Dawood, Executive Director of the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE); King Lee, Head of Policy and Industry Engagement at the World Nuclear Association (WNA); Senda Hurmuzan Kanam, Director of the New Energy Department at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of Indonesia; Patrick Aquino, Director of the Energy Utilization Management Bureau at the Department of Energy of the Philippines; and Susan Aksoy, Design Development Manager at Tunas. The webinar also examined practical case studies from newcomer countries in nuclear energy, demonstrating approaches to launching and implementing national nuclear programs, human resource development strategy, as well as the commercial and socio-economic benefits of developing nuclear generation.

Particular attention during the webinar was given to Rosatom’s technological solutions. Alexander Tsibulya, a representative of the state corporation, spoke about the advantages of Russian nuclear technologies: “We can offer ASEAN countries reference, time-tested solutions both for large-capacity reactors and for small land-based and floating power units, depending on each country’s needs, its national energy strategy, and geographic features. Today, Russian nuclear reactors are the most in demand globally: out of 25 nuclear power units currently under construction for export, 22 are being built by us. We are ready to share our advanced technologies with our partner countries.”
