On 24- 25 September 2026 in Jakarta was held the 5th meeting of the HRD
Joint Working Group (JWG) of Rosatom and BRIN.
The Parties discussed the current status of cooperation education and capacity building, expansion of the cross university cooperation between the Russian and Indonesian universities as well as reviewed the drafts of the Memorandum of Understanding on Training and Professional Skills Development and the Roadmap of Cooperation in education and capacity building for 2026–2027. The documents were recommended for final alignment and signing in the near future.
The meeting was chaired by Dr. Edy Giri Rahman Putra, Deputy Chairman for Human Resources of Science and Technology at BRIN, and Ms. Vera Upirova, Project office or education development and International cooperation, Rosatom, with the participation of leading Indonesian universities (Institut Teknologi Bandung, Universitas Gadjah Mada , University of Indonesia, Universitas Padjajaran, Poltek Nuklir) and Russian partner universities of Rosatom (M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University, MEPhI National research nuclear university, Tomsk Polytechnic University).
The Parties also agreed to advance youth initiatives and to hold a joint Train-the-Trainers course in research reactors and cyclotrons based in BRIN for the participants from ASEAN countries in 2027.
“The cornerstone of every nuclear project is human capital. Technology is important, but people make it safe and sustainable,” emphasized Ms. Vera Upirova.
At the moment 29 Indonesian students are doing their degree in nuclear at Russian universities; about 10 scholarships of the Russian Government are allocated annually for Indonesian students, 46 specialists trained through Train-the-Trainers courses, 9 BRIN doctoral students are enrolled in the joint TPU–BRIN Sandwich Doctoral Programme.
