Giredmet
Institute, part of Rosatom’s Chemical Technology Cluster, has signed a contract
with India’s Alt Metals to establish a pilot production facility for titanium
sponge. The agreement was concluded during the INNOPROM. India exhibition in
New Delhi. The document was signed by Andrey Goliney, Director of the Chemical
Technology Unit at Rosatom Science JSC (the management company of Giredmet
JSC), and Anjani Sri Mourya Sunkavalli, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of
Alt Metals.
The agreement aims to develop collaboration between Russian and Indian specialists in advanced mineral processing and envisages the supply of laboratory equipment to produce titanium sponge.
“The project involves developing the initial design data for an industrial titanium sponge production facility with an annual capacity of 1,000 metric tons. During the first phase, we will analyze the customer’s raw materials, conduct laboratory studies, manufacture and supply a set of laboratory equipment, and provide supervision of installation, commissioning, and personnel training. We are interested in scaling the technology up to industrial level and subsequently integrating it into India’s industrial sector,” Andrey Goliney emphasized.
Rosatom’s
Scientific Division conducts innovative fundamental and applied research to
develop nuclear and non-nuclear technologies, including technologies for
closing the nuclear fuel cycle, thermonuclear fusion, and nuclear medicine. It
also creates science-intensive technologies for nuclear medicine and other
industries. The division comprises 13 research institutes and commercial
companies. These entities have advanced research infrastructure and their own
pilot production facilities, enabling them to carry a scientific concept
through the entire development cycle — from fundamental research to engineering
design and prototypes. Most of the division’s research and development
activities are conducted under Rosatom’s Unified Industry Thematic Plan. The division’s
responsibilities include testing, the development of high-technology medical
equipment, and the creation of new structural materials. It also implements
projects to commercialize promising science-intensive technologies.
Giredmet JSC, part of Rosatom’s Scientific Division, is one of the corporation’s leading research organizations specializing in materials science. The institute was established on September 6, 1931. Its activities cover the entire production and technology cycle, from developing methods for enriching ores containing rare and rare-earth metals to producing high-purity substances, single crystals, and finished products for the electronics, nuclear, aerospace, and space industries. The institute has designed and commissioned dozens of industrial facilities in the former Soviet Union, Russia, and other countries. Giredmet JSC is part of Rosatom’s Chemical Technology Cluster (CTC). The CTC serves as a strategic platform for fostering innovation and supporting scientific and technological progress in Russia’s nuclear and related industries. Its activities cover a broad range of areas related to the development, production, and application of new materials, composites, high-purity substances, as well as rare and rare-earth metals. As part of this mission, the CTC serves as an integrator of scientific research, applied development, and industrial production, enabling it to create strong synergies across the different stages of the science and technology cycle.
Alt Metals is an Indian company founded in 2023 and headquartered in Hyderabad. The company specializes in developing and implementing projects in metallurgy and mineral processing. Its Founder and Chief Executive Officer is Anjani Sri Mourya Sunkavalli.
