Büyükeceli, Mersin, Türkiye. - A set of four
steam generators for Unit 4 was delivered to the Akkuyu NPP (being built by
Rosatom State Corporation) construction site. Upon unloading the fright ship,
the equipment was loaded onto self-propelled wheeled platforms and transported
to a temporary storage site.
The set of steam generators was manufactured at the Atommash plant in Volgodonsk (part of the Rosatom machine-building division) and delivered to Türkiye by sea. Route length was about 3,000 km. In total, Rosatom machine builders have manufactured more than 7 thousand tons of equipment for the reactor compartments of four Akkuyu NPP power units. The most important ones are four vessels of the latest generation of VVER-1200 type reactors and 16 steam generators. These components of the reactor plants main equipment will be used throughout the entire life cycle of power units.
"Steam generators are among the key components of the reactor plant. Thermal energy generated by the reactor is transferred into the second circuit within the steam generator vessels for subsequent electricity production. The delivery of the equipment set for Unit 4 confirms the stable operation of the production and logistics chain of the project. As soon as the building structures are ready, we provide the site with the equipment necessary for the subsequent stages of installation. This allows us to carry out construction and installation works systematically at all nuclear power plant facilities," Akkuyu Nuclear JSC CEO Sergei Butckikh noted.
Steam generators are referred to the long-term production cycle equipment. The total duration of all production operations fr om the start of production of billets to shipment takes about two years. The cycle includes welding of the vessel fr om individual elements, manufacture of bottoms, manufacture and installation of heat exchange tubes, internal devices, as well as a set of control measures. Prior to shipment fr om the manufacturer plant, steam generators undergo hydraulic and vacuum control operations. Their results confirm the reliability and durability of the equipment that will be used at the NPP for at least 60 years.
About NPPs with VVER-1200 reactors
One nuclear steam generating plant with a VVER-1200 reactor includes a
reactor pressure vessel, four steam generators, main circulation pumps that
circulate the coolant (desalinated water) through the reactor core, pipelines,
fittings and other auxiliary systems.
The steam generator is an important component of the reactor plant,
which belongs to the highest safety class products. The diameter of the steam
generator exceeds 4 meters, the length is about 14 meters, and the weight is
340 tons. In the upper part of the steam generator body there is a space wh ere
steam is formed, and in the lower part there is a heat exchange surface
consisting of 11,000 tubes. The total length of all pipes of one steam
generator exceeds 140 km. The steam generated in the steam generators is fed
through the steam lines of the second circuit to the turbine hall wh ere the
steam energy rotates the shaft of the steam turbine. The rotation of the shaft
is transmitted to an electric generator, wh ere it is converted into
electricity.
About Akkuyu
NPP
Akkuyu NPP is the first nuclear power plant being
built in the Republic of Türkiye. The Akkuyu NPP project includes four power
units equipped with Generation 3+ VVER reactors of Russian design.
The capacity of each power unit is 1200 MW. Akkuyu NPP is the first project in the global nuclear industry being implemented according to the Build-Own-Operate business model.
