A two-day visit of a delegation of relevant Ministries and Departments of the Republic of Türkiye headed by Zafer Demircan, Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, PhD, took place at the Akkuyu NPP site (under construction by Rosatom).
During the
visit, coordination meetings were held with representatives of Turkish
Ministries and Departments, the Nuclear Regulatory Agency, Rosatom State
Corporation, Akkuyu Nuclear, and the main contractors of the project. Сoordination meetings were attended
by representatives of the Ministry of Finance and Treasury, the Ministry of
Trade, the Ministry of Industry and Technology, Nuclear Regulatory Authority
(NDK) and the Regulator's Technical Support Organization (NÜTED), the Turkish
Electric Power Transmission Corporation (TEİAŞ), the Electricity Generation
Company (EÜAŞ), as well as officials fr om the administration of the
construction region. The Russian side was represented by Akkuyu Nuclear JSC and
the main contracting organizations of the project.
The parties discussed the status of the project, financing, licensing, training of operational personnel, physical protection and other topics. Akkuyu Nuclear JSC Chief Executive Officer Sergei Butckikh showed the main facilities of the NPP under construction to the visitors: the reactor building of Unit 1, the power output system, wh ere the installation of the main equipment is being completed, and common-station facilities.
First Deputy Director General for Corporate Development and International Business of Rosatom Kirill Komarov, who participated by video conference, emphasized: "NPP construction is a large–scale infrastructure project with a large number of parties involved. Ensuring close coordination is one of the conditions for its successful implementation. We appreciate the constructive dialogue with the Turkish authorities and are confident in the project continued stable development."
Akkuyu Nuclear JSC Board of Directors Chairperson Anton Dedusenko noted: "The project is being implemented in changing external conditions. We are working in close cooperation with the Turkish side to resolve issues of ensuring uninterrupted financing of the project, simultaneously with the implementation of the work plan at the site. The mutual understanding of the participants and the experience of joint work on the project continue to serve the key to its progressive implementation."
Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Türkiye Zafer DEMİRCAN said: "Our growing economy requires an environmentally friendly source of base load, and nuclear energy ensures it. We received all the necessary information about the work on the project during the visit to the site. The Akkuyu NPP project is being implemented in constant cooperation between the participating parties."
Following the meetings, the parties agreed to work together to ensure the implementation of the project according to the agreed schedule.
Akkuyu NPP is the first nuclear power plant being built in the Republic of Türkiye. The Akkuyu NPP project includes four power units equipped with Generation 3+ VVER reactors of Russian design. The capacity of each power unit will be 1200 MW. Akkuyu NPP is the first project in the global nuclear industry being implemented according to the Build-Own-Operate model. Russia is actively developing scientific cooperation with all interested countries.
