On September 25, 2025 in Moscow, as part of the World Atomic Week (WAW 2025) international forum, a round table was held on the topic ‘Comprehensive Energy Balance: Nuclear + Renewable Energy = The Formula for the Future?’. The round table organizer is Rosatom's wind power division (managed by Rosatom Renewable Energy JSC).
The round table was attended by Petr Konyushenko, Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation; Altynbek Rysbekov, Deputy Minister of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic; Oleg Barkin, Deputy Chairman of the Board and Member of the Board of the Association «NP Market Council»; Andrey Kataev, Director for Energy Markets and External Relations, Russian Power System Operator JSC; Grigory Nazarov, Director General, Rosatom Renewable Energy JSC, and others. The round table was moderated by Irina Gaida, Group Leader, HSE Faculty of Geography, General Director of Low Carbon Development Center LLC.
The experts discussed what technology choices are made by various countries prioritizing the health, safety, and quality of life of their citizens; what makes a perfect energy mix and aligning electricity prices with their true market value; how to shape policies that prioritize people's welfare: affordable reliable energy, minimized environmental impact, opportunities for human development; how to synchronize development of RES, nuclear generation and grid infrastructure to ensure uninterrupted power supply given a rising share of intermittent power sources.‘In an era of pioneering energy development, we must intelligently plan not only the capacity of the mechanical engineering complex but also create a sound economic model to ensure the cost of electricity allows the economy to grow. Nuclear and renewable energy fully meet these requirements. With the latest selections in the Far East, the renewable energy mechanical engineering complex has confirmed that we are ready for localization requirements and the conditions the government is setting to ensure energy sovereignty’ noted Grigory Nazarov.
‘Nuclear generation has been and will remain a reliable foundation for the development of Russia's energy system for the foreseeable future. At the same time, new generation sources, such as renewable energy sources and energy storage systems, will inevitably take a significant place in the structure of generating capacity in our country’ said Andrey Kataev.
Following the discussion the participants noted that growing electrification and the artificial intelligence boom increase demand for energy. This moment necessitates technological solutions capable of creating sustainable, self-supporting, and flexible energy systems that serve the cause of humanity in a reliable, affordable, and eco-friendly way. The climate crisis pressure is getting more intense: the transition to a low-carbon economy requires a new energy network architecture.
The Rosatom’s Wind Energy Division (managed by Rosatom Renewable Energy, JSC) acts as an integrator of projects in the wind power industry, effectively solving the entire range of tasks, from the design of wind farms (WF) to their service maintenance. In Volgodonsk, the Atommash plant organized the production of hubs, nacelles, generators and cooling systems for 2.5 MW wind turbines. The equipment is 80 % Russian. Currently, over 1035 MW of wind power capacity have been successfully commissioned, namely nine wind farms in southern Russia. In total, Rosatom plans to commission wind power plants with a total capacity of over 2 GW by 2028 (taking into account already commissioned capacities), which will enable the division to become one of the leaders in the Russian RES market. rosatom-renewables.ru
The World Atomic Week (WAW 2025) international forum dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Russian nuclear industry is being held in at VDNKh, Moscow, on September 25–28, 2025. The Forum organized by State Corporation Rosatom includes an exhibition showcasing the nuclear industry achievements of Russia and its partners. The business program involves the following thematic tracks: Affordable Clean Energy, Industrial Innovation: Reimagining the Production, Ecology: Let’s Make the Planet Cleaner, Advanced Medicine: Protecting Human Health, Digital Breakthrough, Mobility: Logistics without Borders, Creating a Comfortable Urban Environment, Science and Education: a Driving Force of Progress. A part of the Forum's youth program (September 27–28) will be the Znanie.Pervye science and education marathon organized by the Znanie All-Russian Society within the Youth and Children national project. The Forum will also host the 2nd Composites without Borders Youth Festival.
The efficient operation of the fuel and energy complex is vital to national interests, ensuring the economic stability and well-being of people. Large companies of the industry develop their production and invest in import substitution technologies. Rosatom and its companies actively contribute to that work.
