Province, Türkiye. Lifting and installation of the turbine generator stator into the
pre-design position, one of the key installation operations in the turbine hall
of Unit 2, have been completed at the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (being built
by Rosatom State Corporation).
The
stator is one of the heaviest equipment components of the nuclear power plant.
It weighs 437 tons, is 12-meter long and has a 4,2-meter diameter. The
equipment was installed into the pre-design position using specialized rigging
and hydraulic systems.
The operation was preceded by a set of preparation works, including reinforcement of the zero-elevation floor of the turbine hall, installation of temporary support structures, as well as a special rail track for equipment transportation to the place of installation. The stator was lifted to the turbine elevation (18.5 meters above ground level) using a crane-free method with a hydraulic rigging system. The technique was previously implemented during lifting and installation of the stator in the turbine hall of Akkuyu NPP Unit 1.
"Commissioning works continue at Unit 1, while construction and installation operations are simultaneously performed consistently at other Units. With assistance of an experienced Turkish company, which specializes in transportation and rigging operations, we completed transportation and lifting of the turbine generator stator to the design elevation, as well as its installation into the pre-design position at Unit 2. Thus, in the turbine hall we are gradually switching from construction works to installation of turbine plant components, while ensuring the required margin for subsequent installation and commissioning works", Akkuyu Nuclear JSC Chief Executive Officer Sergei Butckikh noted.
Turbine hall or turbine compartment is one of the main
facilities of a nuclear power unit. Here energy of the heated steam supplied
from the reactor hall will be converted into mechanical energy of the turbine
rotation, and then, in the turbine generator, into electricity.
Stator is a fixed part of the turbine generator which convert magnetic field
into electric current.
About Akkuyu NPP
Akkuyu NPP is the first-ever nuclear power
plant in the Republic of Türkiye being built by Rosatom. The Akkuyu NPP project
includes four power units equipped with Generation 3+ VVER reactors of Russian
design. The capacity of each NPP power unit will be 1200 MW.
Akkuyu NPP is the first project in the global
nuclear industry being implemented according to the Build-Own-Operate model.
Russia is developing cooperation with all interested countries. Implementation of major international projects is going on. Rosatom and its divisions take part in this work.
