On August 9, 2025,
in Astana (Republic of Kazakhstan), Alexey Likhachev, Director General of the
State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom, met with Olzhas Bektenov, Prime
Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The Head of Rosatom informed Olzhas Bektenov about the commencement of work on the construction of the first high-capacity nuclear power plant (NPP) in Kazakhstan.
During the meeting, the parties discussed measures to ensure the use of Kazakhstani equipment and materials, engage local specialists, and facilitate experience exchange. Issues related to the localization of nuclear fuel cycle processes were also raised. Practical aspects of forming an international consortium uniting leading Kazakhstani and foreign partners were considered.
The Russian side confirmed its readiness to cooperate with suppliers from Kazakhstan and other countries, ensuring the necessary level of collaboration within the framework of the nuclear power plant construction.
Olzhas Bektenov stressed that the NPP construction is under the personal supervision of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The Government of the Republic will provide the necessary support for the project’s implementation.
