Specialized Scientific Research Institute for Instrumentation Engineering JSC (SNIIP JSC, a company of the Instrumentation & Control and Electrical Engineering Division of Rosatom State Corporation) supplied the nuclear island instrumentation and control systems for Xudapu NPP Power Unit 3 being under construction with VVER-1200 Russian design in Liaoning province, China.

As part of the Russian supply scope, SNIIP specialists completed manufacture of software and hardware complexes of nuclear island instrumentation and control systems and rendered the services of their installation supervision. Currently, the works on commissioning of the I&C systems equipment supplied by the Russian Party are underway at the site of Power Unit 3. Time-proven software and hardware solutions used in the development and manufacture of I&C information and instrumentation complexes ensure reliable monitoring of key parameters of the reactor plant, diagnostics of equipment state, implementation of the reactor protection functions, as well as fire protection. The supply scope also included the laboratory equipment and a full-scale simulator.

“Business with China for SNIIP is a series of large-scale projects with their own history, which include supply of not separate devices, but full-scale integrated solutions for the power units with supply of instrumentation, control, diagnostics, and fire protection systems and other special systems of nuclear island I&C. The above-mentioned software and hardware complexes, being part of the common-plant I&C, provide reliable information on the state of the reactor plant and ensure performance of the key safety functions. As of now, we have completed the work stage for Xudapu NPP Power Unit 3 and continue to carry out the same works for Power Unit 4, as well as for Tianwan NPP Power Unit 8. This approach allows us to use the gained experience and a unified engineering supply logic for several Russian VVER-1200 projects in China at once," said Alexey Nikitin, CEO of SNIIP JSC.

Earlier, SNIIP JSC completed works on supply and commissioning of I&C systems for Tianwan NPP Power Unit 7. The total of four new VVER-1200 reactors are under construction in China, including Tianwan NPP Power Units 7 and 8 in Jiangsu province, as well as Xudapu NPP Power Units 3 and 4. These projects are a part of a large-scale Russian-Chinese interstate program of cooperation on peaceful use of nuclear energy.

Xudapu NPP is a large-scale project of cooperation in nuclear industry between Russia and China, located in the city of Huludao (Liaoning province). In 2019, a number of contracts was signed, including the general contract for construction of Xudapu NPP Power Units 3 and 4 with VVER-1200 reactors, as well as the contract for nuclear fuel supply. Under the contracts, Engineering Division of Rosatom designs the nuclear island of the NPP, supplies the key equipment of the nuclear island for both power units, and renders the services of installation supervision and commissioning supervision of the equipment supplied. The commercial commissioning of the power units is scheduled for the period of 2027-2028.

Specialized Scientific Research Institute for Instrumentation Engineering JSC (SNIIP JSC) is a company of the Instrumentation & Control and Electrical Engineering Division of Rosatom State Corporation. This is one of the leading scientific and production enterprises of Rosatom State Corporation dealing with nuclear instrumentation engineering. The company works on assurance of nuclear and radiation safety of nuclear installations and radiation-hazardous facilities, monitoring of radiation situation, building public trust and acceptance of nuclear energy, protection and preservation of the environment.

The Instrumentation & Control and Electrical Engineering Division of Rosatom State Corporation (”I&C and Electrical Engineering”, managing company – Rosatom Automated Control Systems JSC, RASU) unites the industry's competences in the industrial automation, instrumentation and electrical engineering, establishing the technological foundation for control of nuclear energy and production facilities. The Division acts as a full-scope supplier of monitoring, control and energy distribution systems for nuclear power plants at all lifecycle stages for dozens of operating and new build power units in Russia and abroad, as well as industrial enterprises, solar and wind power plants. The Division includes a research institute with its own production facilities; a manufacturer of radioisotope devices; and a leading company specializing in converters and EV charging infrastructure.
