Representatives of JSC "Rosatom Renewable Energy," together with the Ministry of Tourism of Stavropol Krai, conducted the first introductory tour for the region’s tourist guides as part of an industrial tourism project.  The participants familiarized themselves with the operations of Russia’s largest wind farm—the Kochubeyevskaya WPP.

The presentation on renewable energy, the technological process of electricity generation using wind power, and the construction technologies of such facilities particularly interested the attendees.

The duration of the tour program was one hour. Tours are planned to be held during the warm season, from May to September inclusive, on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Professional tour operators will be involved in conducting the tours with the assistance of the Ministry of Tourism of Stavropol Krai.

"Stavropol Krai is a flagship of Russia’s wind energy sector. Rosatom already has seven operational facilities in the region. Tours of our WPPs are a great opportunity to see the future of energy firsthand We are delighted that residents and visitors to the region are interested in this. After all, wind energy is not just about clean power, new technologies, expertise, and jobs. Wind energy is simply beautiful," said Grigory Nazarov, General Director of JSC "Rosatom Renewable Energy."

Thanks to the support of the region’s head, Vladimir Vladimirovich Vladimirov, various types of tourism, including industrial tourism, are developing in Stavropol Krai. Every year, new sites open for visits, and our rich industrial heritage showcases the country’s progressive development,"* noted Andrey Tolbatov, Minister of Tourism and Health Resorts of Stavropol Krai.

The wind energy division of Rosatom (managed by JSC "Rosatom Renewable Energy") serves as an integrator for renewable energy projects, effectively handling the full range of tasks—from the design of renewable energy facilities to their maintenance. In Volgodonsk, the production of hubs, nacelles, generators, cooling systems, and control systems for 2.5 MW wind turbines has been established at the Atommash plant. To date, over 1 GW of wind energy capacity has been successfully commissioned, comprising nine wind farms in southern Russia. By 2027, Rosatom plans to commission wind farms with a total capacity of about 1.7 GW (including already operational capacities).

The Kochubeyevskaya Wind Farm consists of 84 wind turbines with a total installed capacity of 210 MW. Since January 1, 2021, the Kochubeyevskaya WPP has been supplying electricity to the national grid.  Currently, seven Rosatom wind farms are operational in Stavropol Krai.

On average, a Rosatom wind turbine consists  of 7,000–8,000 different components.  Inside, it houses grid converters that transform direct current into alternating current of a fixed frequency for transmission to the grid, a control panel displaying real-time technical indicators of the WTG, a lubrication system, a generator, a blade pitch control system, and more.  The total weight of the structure is about 324 tons. The overall height (including blade length) is 150 m (equivalent to a 50-story building). The rotor diameter (hub and three blades) is 100 m (a 33-story building). The hub weighs 20 tons (five African elephants).  The blades must be strong and flexible—otherwise, high-altitude winds would snap them like twigs. Additionally, the blades must be as lightweight as possible, as increased mass raises structural loads. Each blade weighs 8.6 tons  and is 49.05 m long (a 16-story building). The rotational speed at the blade tip reaches 225 km/h (comparable to the average speed of a race car).  The total service life of a WTG is 20–25 years.

The efficient operation of the fuel and energy sector is of paramount importance for the state, ensuring stability and prosperity for citizens. Russian companies continue to successfully deliver development projects and pioneer innovative solutions, and Rosatom (including its companies) remains an active contributor to this strategic effort.
