On October 17, as part of the business program of the Russian Energy Week International Forum, a Memorandumof Understanding was signed between Rosatom Renewable Energy JSCand Mosenergosbyt JSC.
The subject of the signed document is mutual cooperation in the field of sustainable development. In particular, Mosenergosbyt will purchase green certificates and electricity under free bilateral power purchase agreements that provide for transferring generation attributesproduced by wind farms of the companies managed by Rosatom Renewable Energy JSC.
"Development of low-carbon generation is one of the key global trends and Rosatom plays an active role in this process. Our Wind Energy Division demonstrates steady growth and we are interested in making all the generated green energy available to end users. Partnership with Mosenergosbyt having a huge customer base will allow us to develop RES in Russia jointly and offer the market sought-after environmentally safe solutions," said Grigory Nazarov, Director General of Rosatom Renewable Energy JSC.
"The signing of this memorandum is an important step in implementing our sustainable development strategy. We strive to provide our customers, both individuals and corporations, with modern and affordable green energy instruments. Cooperation with one of the Russian wind power leaders, the company Rosatom Renewable Energy, opens up new opportunities for that," noted Andrey Kovalev, Director General of Mosenergosbyt JSC.
The Rosatom State Corporation's Wind Energy Division takes on the role of a
renewable energy project integrator through the efficient problem-solving of
any kinds of tasks, from engineering design to ongoing maintenance of renewable
energy facilities. At the Atommash plant in Volgodonsk, production has been
established for wind turbine components, including hubs, nacelles, generators,
cooling systems, and control systems for 2.5 MW units. To date, more than 1
GW of wind energy capacity has been successfully commissioned, comprising nine
wind farms in southern Russia. By 2028, Rosatom plans to commission wind farms
with a total capacity of over 2 GW (including already operational capacities).
Mosenergosbyt JSC is one of the largest power supply companies in Russia selling about 8.9% of all electricity consumed in the country. As a guaranteeing electricity supplierin the Moscow region, Mosenergosbyt supplies electricity to 430,000 facilities of enterprises and organizationsand over 9.6 million household consumers in Moscow and the Moscow region.
A green certificate is a document confirming the fact of
generating a certain amount of electric energy (in kW∙h or MW∙h)in a
specific period at a specific generating facility. Certificates circulate
separately from electric energy. All transactions
with certificates are recorded in a special register. The system for
circulation of generation attributes and certificates began to function on
February 1, 2024. The rules for keeping the register are determined by the
supervisory board of the Association "NP Market Council".
Major Russian companies put great emphasis on implementing projects in the field of sustainable environmental practices. Generating low-carbon electricity, Rosatom is consistent in its step-by-step green economy transition. The corporation modernizes its equipment ensuring clean energy generation and yearly allocates hundreds of millions rubles to environmental protection activities.
