Press release

The first boiler ignition to supply process steam have begun at the Rooppur NPP start-up standby boiler room constructed by the Engineering Division of the Rosatom State Corporation in the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.

The start-up standby boiler room is a critical facility to guarantee the safe and uninterrupted NPP operation. At the stage of NPP units construction, the steam produced at the start-up standby boiler room is used for the most important commissioning operations, such as hot running of the reactor plant and trial vacuum supply in the turbine condenser. During the operation period, the boiler equipment is used in scheduled preventive maintenance. Moreover, it provides hot water supply to industrial facilities at the NPP site and guarantees safe operation of the power unit in the event of an emergency shutdown.

“We deliver stage-by-stage objectives and meet commitments to our partners related to the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Bangladesh. In November, another important stage has begun, i.e. the launch of the start-up and standby boiler room, which will facilitate further commissioning and ensure the operation of many NPP facilities. All these are elements of safe operation of the future NPP, designed to improve the well-being of the PRB residents and confirm once again the reliability and efficiency of Russian nuclear technologies,” Alexey Deriy, ASE JSC Vice President for Projects in Bangladesh pointed out.

Rooppur NPP equipped with two VVER-1200 reactors of the total 2400 MW capacity is being constructed under the Russian design 160 km from Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, in accordance with General Contract dated December 25, 2015. The Russian design with VVER-1200 reactors that had been successfully implemented at two units of Novovoronezh NPP was selected for the first NPP in Bangladesh. This is an evolutionary Generation III+ design which fully complies with all the international safety requirements.

The Rosatom State Corporation Engineering Division unites the leading companies of the nuclear industry, namely: Atomstroyexport JSC (Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, branch offices in Russia and abroad), Joint Design Institute – Atomenergoproekt JSC (Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, and St. Petersburg branch offices and design institutes, branch offices in Russia and abroad, R&D branches) and subsidiary construction companies.

The Engineering Division ranks first in the world by the order portfolio and the number of NPPs constructed simultaneously across the world. About 80 % of the Division’s revenues originate from foreign projects.

The Engineering Division implements construction projects for high-power NPPs in Russia and across the world, renders a full range of EPC, EP, EPC(M) services including project management and design activities, and develops Multi-D technologies for the management of complex engineering facilities. The Division relies on the achievements of the Russian nuclear industry and modern cutting-edge technologies. www.ase-ec.ru
